#childhoodillustrated is a hashtag started by the brilliant illustrator Helen Stephens, that encourages illustrators to harness childhood memories, ambitions and dreams as another avenue for illustration source material. Here are a few of my ongoing contributions!
I remember, on one of many trips to Cornwall as a child, hearing about the local myth of Madgy Figgy, a witch who lured ships to their wreckage by conjuring storms. I believe Legend has it that she sat upon a rock shaped like a chair on the cliff, but in my lasting memory, she lived in a cave out at sea - and I was terrified!
When visiting my grandmother’s house, my cousins and my brother and I used to hide under the stairs in fear of a monster (or was it a ghost?) called Spookabee, who we imagined making its way down the creaky stairs. I still remember the palpable fear!
